1970 For 2012

I'm not a big fan of Kathrine Heigl but her cover and spread in Elle's January issue really impressed and inspired me. I've been trying to put together a NYE look for a while now, and all though I found some pretty great options none of them were really "wowing" me like I had hoped. Then I picked up the new issue of Elle and saw the gorgeous pictures of Mrs. Heigl portraying glam looks from the 70's, and it hit me. I thought this is it! This is exactly the look I want! A flowing white or cream dress, in a silky fabric that oozes glamor, and shys away from the typical NYE LBD. Add chunky gold chains, cuffs, a structured necklace or pile on the bangles and this party look is pretty much complete. Thank you Elle for the inspiration!! Now comes the hard ( but fun) part of shopping.

Secret Santa

Deciding on gifts for secret Santa is always a hard task for me. I want to give thoughtful gifts and it's kind of difficult when the name does not come with 3 ideas or hints. This year I thought ahead and since shopping for scientists is pretty hard, I hit the Internet in hopes of finding some cool and unique gifts. The gifts I'm looking for must fit the arranged price range, and most importantly be available for pick up since we're exchanging next week! After a bit of searching  I found some pretty neat gifts, that I'm hoping my co workers will love. Id be happy to get any of these gifts so hopefully my secret Santa reads this post!

Style Icon: Marilyn Monroe

So I've just watched the film My Week with Marilyn and its got my fashion juices flowing! Let me start by saying the movie is really great and Michelle Williams did an excellent job depicting Marilyn. I'm really in love with the confidence these women had at this time in history, it wasn't super low cut tops or short skirts that determined what sexy was it was the way the women carried themselves. Wouldn't it be nice to get back to a time where its considered alluring to wear a tea length dress or a pencil skirt and a buttoned up cardigan? This film has beyond inspired me and come this week I will be donning fuzzy sweaters, blouses, skinny trousers, pencil skirts and pumps galore! I encourage you all to go out and see this movie,  I promise you'll love it and fall in love with pencil skirts all over again <3.
